The first step in setting up the Velos eResearch system is to establish organizations. Organizations are a foundational unit within Velos eResearch that represent an entity (Institution, Affiliate, Department, etc.). Studies, users, and patients must be associated to at least one organization. Permissioned users can add or edit organizations. There are four types of organizations as described in the table below.

Independent Site
Independent research site or affiliate.
Institution (Hospital/AME)
Institutional research site or affiliate.
Sponsor
An entity that takes responsibility for a research study. Typically a pharmaceutical, governmental or independent biotech organization.
Site of Service
Company, institution or lab that provides study services. Site of Service organizations are required for some event types and calendars. To learn more about events, see Library Management.
